One of the scientific world's most respected environmental prizes

The Volvo Environment Prize is an independent Foundation instituted in 1988 with the purpose of rewarding outstanding scientific discoveries or innovations which in broad terms fall within the environmental field.

The Volvo Environment Prize Foundation has appointed a Scientific Committee headed by Professor Carl Folke. The Committee does the initial screening and evaluation of candidates, which are then presented to the International Prize Jury headed by Professor Will Steffen.

The International Prize Jury has the responsibility for selecting a laureate (or laureates) for recommendation to the Board of the Foundation.

A Steering Committee is responsible for the continuous development of the Prize as well as financing and executive decisions.
