The 2024 award ceremony coincided with the 35th Anniversary of the Volvo Environment Prize. Political Science Professor Frank Biermann received the award in Stockholm on Oct. 15. The Swedish Minister for Climate and Environment, Romina Pourmokhtari, handed it to him.

A film on Frank Biermann’s research, “Can Political Science Save Sustainable Development Goals?” premiered at the event. The event also featured discussions with Frank Biermann on his research on sustainability governance and with Jury members Professor Johan Rockström and Martin Lundstedt, Volvo Group President and CEO, on future challenges in a fast-changing world. Niklas Gustafsson, Secretary of the Volvo Environment Prize Foundation, moderated the event. The event featured a cavalcade of world events and previous laureates in retrospect since the first award in 1990, as well as musical entertainment.

Jury member Johan Rockström read the award citation and was thanked by Niklas Gustafsson, who moderated the prize event.
